Dear Stott families,

What a start to the month of May! Snow, rain and so many activities at school. May always brings excitement about the end of the current school year and questions about the upcoming school year. Around this time of year, parents always ask about next year and who their child’s teacher will be as well as if they can have any input into that decision. So, I thought I would explain the process here.

The process to create class lists is one that takes several days after students have already gone home for the summer. Current teachers look at all students as a whole and reflect on many facets of the student. The teachers do their best to build classes that are evenly distributed with students who are performing at all levels of academic needs and students who work independently as well as those who may need more support. The classes are then divided evenly with equal numbers of boys and girls (or as evenly as possibly). Finally, teachers look at which students work well together and which students could benefit from a break from one another. All of these pieces of information are used together to develop a class list. After the list has been created it is assigned to a teacher.

Parents are welcome to provide input to teachers before class lists are formed. There is a parent input form in the office, if you would like to pick one up. These forms are due by May 15, in order to have them in time to make the class list decisions. Input is strictly about teaching style or philosophy that you believe would impact your child. We do not accept any requests for particular teachers.

Thank you for another incredible year. Go Stallions!

As always, please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
